Communicate the Strategic Plan
Once completed the strategic plan should be communicated to the executive committee and board, volunteers in leadership roles, members, and applicable stakeholders of the organization. Development of a communication strategy for the strategic plan is one of the most vital, yet often forgotten, components of the strategic planning process. Once the strategic plan is developed, the communication plan will determine the success of its effectiveness.

Communicating the strategic plan to all members will create an environment of empowerment, generational synergy, teamwork, inclusiveness and collaboration. The key strategies of a communication plan when communicating with members:
 
  1. Use a consistent message that’s easily remembered.
     
  2. Use a tone for all communications that creates excitement and meaningful purpose.
     
  3. Convey the theme and strategic plan concepts to stakeholders.
     
  4. Use a broad spectrum of delivery modes (as available) to communicate and solicit input/feedback (i.e. print, electronic, and face to face).
     
  5. Create a talking points template to assist executive committee and board members /task force members in facilitating two way discussions with stakeholders.
     
  6. Establish electronic communication for members to ask questions and provide input about the strategic plan through the organization’s website.
     
  7. Provide notices/articles to appropriate publications.
     
  8. Present at meetings, seminars and workshops (locally, district, state or regional).
     
  9. Use handouts at targeted meetings.
